"One Voice - One guitar. The pure essence of classic rock" Let me present: Classic Rock Unplugged! This is a pretty recent collaboration between two persons; Terje Simonsen on vocals and Lars Lind on guitar. They started this collaboration, or band, as an acoustic tribute to some of the greatest hard rock and heavy metal bands they know. Their aim is to bring out the essence in classic rock, using only vocals and a guitar. Now their first single is finally here! Then it’s time to end the rundown on ”Heavy Western” – Lars Lind’s latest album. It’s actually kind of sad, because I don’t know what I am going to write about from now on? I am wondering if I’ll do a summary of the rundown a bit later. Maybe I’ll give it a score aswell? Today’s song is never the less “Quality Time”, and it’s the last song on the album. This is what Lars himself has to say about his song - The only acoustic track on the record. I'm joined by the Norwegian guitarist Mads Eriksen (My mentor and former teacher) on this song. In my opinion Mads is Norway's premier guitarist and one of the world’s best players. Check out some of his albums on Spotify or iTunes and you'll see what I'm talking about. On "Quality Time" I had the chords ready, and Mads added his part on top and it fitted perfectly. The recording is done live in the studio and I think we succeeded in getting a very good feeling across. The result is a "feel good"...

Yes, I said this post would come on Saturday. But I was busy with work, and a lamb dinner with my in-laws. Which was really nice. On Sunday I was a little geek in other ways. But today I am back stronger! And I am back with my favorite song on “Heavy Western” – Lars Lind’s latest album! Today’s song is number eight in line, and carries the title “Cruise” Of course I have some words from Lars himself, and this is what he has to say - The heaviest track on the record. Very riff oriented. When composing instrumental music it is important with strong themes. I think I succeeded on this song. It kicks off with a heavy intro riff, the verse section leaves room for the lead guitar to step into the light, and the chorus sounds like Joe Satriani and Steve Morse playing with AC/DC or ZZ TOP. The solo section is a bit more loose with just two chords going back and forth. The song then ends with the intro riff with me soloing over it. I think this will do very well in a live set. ...

Then it’s time for song number seven on Heavy Western – Lars Lind’s newest album! Today’s song is, like the blogentry title say, “Downhill Demon” This is what Lars himself has to say about his track - This is propably the song with the most rock 'n' roll attitude on the recoord. 5th gear from intro to outro. Composed this track when i was 19 or 20 years old so it has stood the test of time. I'm very pleased with the middle section where i feel like I'm in "the zone" and playing what the song calls for. The perfect track to end a Lars Lind Band concert. This is truly a song with a lot speed in it, and I really like it! Lars guitarplaying is awesome – and that this song has withstood the test of time is true. It’s actually been 10 years since it was composed, and it still rocks today. An audience that loved this song 10 years ago will still love it today. Not to mention a new audience that’s into a bit harder music and rock’n’roll. The ending is abs...

Then it is time for song number six from Lars Lind’s newest album “ Heavy Western ”. It’s not that many songs left, so I am gonna try and post a bit more rapidly and not on a weekly basis. Today’s song is “Derailed”. Lars has this to say about the song - This is a very guitar oriented track with acoustic and electric guitars, as well as bass and some percussion. A lot of harmonies and strong melodic themes. The guitar arrangement may sound a bit like Eric Clapton and his Band Cream in the sixties. This song is a bit different than the other tracks, but I think it works very well on the record. What I like about this song is the melodic themes. The entire song has a feel to it that brings forth memories and thoughts. It’s a bit more calm than many of the other songs on the album. Unfortunately, the week goes by a bit too fast at times, so the whole project with the rundown on Lars Lind’s newest album has been put on ice because of my studies and the cold I have. But now it’s time to continue with the fifth song on the album Heavy Western . Today’s song is “Heavy Western” – the title track on the album This song has an interesting story to it, and here you can read it: - A few years ago I was recording some instrumental songs, and one of the tracks had an opening for a second guitarist. My manager at the time suggested to bring in Jerry Donahue since he was touring Norway. Jerry Donahue is one of the most famous guitarists in the USA, and has worked with artists such as Elton John and George Harrison. Jerry agreed to do it, and the song was recorded the following day. - This was of course a fantastic experience for me, to watch up close one of the masters work in the studio. Then it is time for song number four from Heavy Western, Lars Lind’s newest album. Today song is “Engine Driver”. Of course I have a few words from the composer himself today as well. - I composed this song after I learned a technique from the American guitarist Jerry Donahue. It's called "hybrid picking" and means that you play with both a pick and your fingers on your right hand. Hence the name "hybrid picking". This opened up a whole new musical world for me, and I find myself using this technique more and more. Maybe the track I'm most happy with on the record. Incredibly fun to play. This song is kinda influenced by the title of the album – heavy western. I get the feeling that this song just might as well have been an intro for a western movie. Not in a negative way though. Now it is time for song number three from Lars Lind’s newest album Heavy Western. And now we are finally as far as I came in the norwegian rundown, before we agreed that I would do it in english as well. So from now on there will be one english and one norwegian post every day for the next few days regarding the album. Still six songs remaining after todays, so stay tuned! Todays song is “High Maintenance”. Let us see what Lars has to say about this song first: - Maybe the most commercial song on the record. It’s very challenging to write instrumentals that will appeal to other than guitar players, but I think I’m on the right track on this one. A music video is also in the works. It’s a real workout to play this song , but I look forward to performing it live. I really want to see a music video from Lars Lind, so I am really looking forward to that. Time for song nummer two on Lars Lind’s new album Heavy Western. First of all I just have to say I am so proud of the promotion he has on his page for my blog! I really appreciate it, Lars . And this is really fun to blog about, so you have to start working on your third album straight away to give me something to write about. (Or atleast produce some more albums for others I can promote!) Hehe Todays song is “Rides”. Lars has this to say about it: - I am a big fan of The Rolling Stones, ZZ Top and Steve Morse (the guitarist in Deep Purple), which this song is clearly influenced by. In my opinion this song has a bit more rock to it then the previous one. The ending is brilliant as it slowly dies out, and you still hear the distant guitar playing. A perfect song to get the right mood for training, clearance and other things where you might lack the the motivation. One of my favorites, but not the all time favorite. Since Lars Lind is now promoting my blog on his webpage, I am taking the blog to new heights – I am gonna do the rundown on his newest album in both norwegian and english!
