Then it is time for song number four from Heavy Western, Lars Lind’s newest album.
Today song is “Engine Driver”.
Of course I have a few words from the composer himself today as well.
- I composed this song after I learned a technique from the American guitarist Jerry Donahue. It's called "hybrid picking" and means that you play with both a pick and your fingers on your right hand. Hence the name "hybrid picking". This opened up a whole new musical world for me, and I find myself using this technique more and more. Maybe the track I'm most happy with on the record. Incredibly fun to play.
This song is kinda influenced by the title of the album – heavy western. I get the feeling that this song just might as well have been an intro for a western movie. Not in a negative way though. The song is great! But I was disappointed by the version that is on youtube.
First of all the song on the cd is much longer. Besides, on the cd he has added some amazing effects – you hear the engine running both in the beginning and in the end of the song. It sounds more like a locomotive actually. And these effects makes for a much cooler feel to the whole song! I love the effects, and it gives the song a better overall impression.
So if you want to know what I mean – download the song from iTunes or Amazon, og order the entire cd, and have the really good experience.
(Not the youtube version that is..)
Still – here is the youtube version:
Stay tuned on Lars’s homepage, facebook and Rocking Well Productions.
And again, a big thanks to Lars who lets me use the blog for this purpose, and helps me along the way with both comments, tips and some insight into a musician’s life. Fantastic!
